Gary Ross may have been booted from directing THE HUNGER GAMES sequel, but he did cement himself as a sought after director. With a wide range of projects to choose from, he seems to be close to making that next film HOUDINI for Summit Entertainment.
The film will be based on The Secret Life of Houdini, The Making of America’s First Superhero, a biography of Harry Houdini by William Kalush and Larry Sloman. The book claims that Houdini was a secret agent working with the Secret Service. No word yet on whether the film will be a true biographical take on the magician’s life or an action thriller in the vein of Guy Ritchie’s SHERLOCK HOLMES films.
While Ross has directed quality film in both PLEASANTVILLE and SEABISCUIT, THE HUNGER GAMES was simply decent filmmaking with atrocious action scenes. But, maybe a period piece is what he needs next. His well known attention to detail has made him a very particular filmmaker.
