First trailer for Les Miserables with Russell Crowe, Hugh Jackman, and Anne Hathaway

The first trailer for LES MISERABLES, an adaptation of the renowned stage play by Victor Hugo, has sung its way online.  Starring Hugh Jackman, Russell Crowe, Anne Hathaway, Amanda Seyfried, Helena Bonham-Carter, and Sacha Baron Cohen, the film is directed by Tom Hooper (THE KING’S SPEECH).

Dream a Dream:

I’m not a huge fan of musicals, but every now and again one slips by.  Tom Hooper is the big sell here, as he has an exceptional visual flair, which you can see in the trailer.  Anyone who can turn a film about a guy giving a speech into an Oscar-winning visual treat is a talent to be reckoned with and it looks like he’ll be doing the same with LES MISERABLES.  And I guess the cast isn’t too bad, either.

Here’s a synopsis:

Set against the backdrop of 19th-century France, Les Misérables tells an enthralling story of broken dreams and unrequited love, passion, sacrifice and redemption–a timeless testament to the survival of the human spirit. Jackman plays ex-prisoner Jean Valjean, hunted for decades by the ruthless policeman Javert (Crowe) after he breaks parole. When Valjean agrees to care for factory worker Fantine’s (Hathaway) young daughter, Cosette, their lives change forever.

LES MISERABLES is set to open on December 14, 2012.
