See Comic Con from Peter Jackson’s point of view in this new production diary from The Hobbit

Last Updated on August 5, 2021

48 fps debate or not, Peter Jackson is a master filmmaker. Whether you love THE LORD OF THE RINGS films or hate them, you cannot deny that he created one of the most technologically astounding works in the history of cinema. All that and he loves to show movie fans how he does it.

If you haven’t watched the production diaries that Jackson has chronicled for pretty much every moment since he began working on THE FELLOWSHIP OF THE RING, you are missing out. They are a testament to the teams of people who make these movies possible. And, they are often times a lot of fun.

This newest diary focuses on the end of production on THE HOBBIT: AN UNEXPECTED JOURNEY as well as Peter Jackson’s recent trip to Comic Con. Seeing the other side of the nerd coin, so to speak, is an interesting experience.

This diary shows us the most footage from THE HOBBIT films to date. The sheer amount of sets they physically built makes me happy as a movie fan. Of course there was going to be a large amount of CGI, but the real world feel is very important to keeping this fantasy world from feeling too artificial.

THE HOBBIT: AN UNEXPECTED JOURNEY opens on December 14th.
