Tom Cruise may have 99 problems, but a gig ain’t one. Moving on from one high-concept sci-fi project to the next, Tom Cruise has landed in London and begun prepping for his role in ALL YOU NEED IS KILL. Costarring the ever-lovely/talented/charming/still talented Emily Blunt and directed by Doug Liman (THE BOURNE IDENTITY, JUMPER), the green light has now been given to ALL YOU NEED IS KILL, a tale about how “there’s one thing worse than dying. It’s coming back to do it again and again… When the alien Gitai invade, Keiji Kiriya is just one of many raw recruits shoved into a suit of battle armor and sent out to kill. Keiji dies on the battlefield, only to find himself reborn each morning to fight and die again and again. On the 158th iteration though, he sees something different, something out of place: the female soldier known as the B*tch of War. Is the B*tch the key to Keiji’s escape, or to his final death?”
If there’s anyone to argue with a plot synopsis like that, it’s definitely not going to be me.
And in a bit of news that’s similar in general but different in the details, the green light has also been given Denzel Washington’s turn in the big-screen take on 80s show THE EQUALIZER. This one’s a bit further along down the road as a start date of April 8th is all that’s in stone thus far, but word is that the studio has already begun setting up meetings with directors including Nicolas Winding Refn (DRIVE), Gareth Evans (THE RAID), Pierre Morel (TAKEN), Gavin O’Connor (WARRIOR). The loose plot of the show centered around “a mysterious former covert operations officer who helps people in trouble… The film has that basic premise but takes off in its own way, tailored to Washington’s skills. He’ll play a solitary, monastic figure who hates injustice and devotes himself to helping people who are being victimized.”
More as we hear it on Denzel’s potential new franchise.
