The posters you’re about to see for the two movies at hand could not be more different. In quality, in marketing potential, in… well, in just about every respect imaginable.
One is for PARKER, starring Jason Statham and Jennifer Lopez and directed by Taylor Hackford (RAY, being married to Helen Mirren). And it is… well, it’s a doozy, to be polite. Or maybe lets put it this way: it’s sure as hell not doing anyone any favors. On the other side of things we have three posters for KILLING THEM SOFTLY, and they are doing the crime film plenty of favors. The most stellar of them is pretty clearly a Mondo creation, but the other two are quite good as well. What I like about the one with the large text in particular is that it 1) helps to put the title into context and 2) reminds me of this poster for TRUE GRIT.
Check ’em out below and let us know what you think! Which do you dig, and why?
Besides Statham and Lopez, PARKER also stars Michael Chiklis, Wendell Pierce, and Nick Nolte. You can catch it January 25th, 2013. The plot (based on the book series by Donald E. Westlake) runs something like this: Parker is a professional thief who lives by a personal code of ethics: Don’t steal from people who can’t afford it and don’t hurt people who don’t deserve it. But on his latest heist, his crew double crosses him, steals his stash, and leaves him for dead. Determined to make sure they regret it, Parker tracks them to Palm Beach, playground of the rich and famous, where the crew is planning their biggest heist ever. Donning the disguise of a rich Texan, Parker takes on an unlikely partner, Leslie (Jennifer Lopez), a savvy insider, who’s short on cash, but big on looks, smarts and ambition. Together, they devise a plan to hijack the score, take everyone down and get away clean.
KILLING ME SOFTLY was adapted/directed by Andrew Dominik, and stars Pitt, Scoot McNairy, James Gandolfini, Richard Jenkins, Ray Liotta, Slaine, and Sam Shepard. You can catch it November 30th.
