ROBOCOP has definitely had a rough go of it ever since… well… since it was even announced, really. And then those set photos of the new suit didn’t do it any favors. Even a little bit. At all.
But maybe this set photo of a redesigned suit will?
Before we take a gander at the picture, here’s one interesting bit of illumination as to why there are two different suits running around (standing around?) – back when Drew McWeeny gave an absolutely scathing review of the script, he pointed out this little scene which actually describes said two suits at play in the movie. “I’ll share this one detail. In the film, when Murphy is turned into Robocop 1.0, it’s described ‘a high-tech version of the ’80s suit.’ Then they show a focus group scene where criminals laugh at the design. ‘He looks like a toy from the ’80s!’ So they redesign him to look ‘meaner’ as Robocop 2.0, who passes focus group approval.”
So without further ado, I present to you what might very well be the suit design for Robocop 2.0. Or maybe this is version 1.0 and the other suit was version 2.0. It isn’t actually clear which is which.
ROBOCOP releases on February 7th, 2014.
