As director David Gordon Green celebrates the wave of acclaim his latest film, PRINCE AVALANCHE, has been bringing in at Sundance, he shared a bit of sad news regarding his remake of Dario Argento‘s classic horror movie SUSPIRIA.
Green told IndieWire that “SUSPIRIA is caught up in legal crap so who knows what will ever happen to that,” he explained. “That kind of falls into the ‘Confederacy Of Dunces’ category of ‘someday I’d like to make these movies’ that I was once attached to and worked on, but they may never happen.”
SUSPIRIA had already locked up financing and a partial cast, so hearing this is very sad news. Many of you were not looking forward to a remake of this movie, but I definitely was. Here’s hoping that Green finds some way to explore the horror genre with a future project.
Aside from PRINCE AVALANCHE, Green is almost finished on another movie called JOE starring Nicolas Cage. PRINCE AVALANCHE, starring Paul Rudd and Emile Hirsch looks like a combination of the two halves of Green’s career. It looks to have elements of drama (ALL THE REAL GIRLS, UNDERTOW, GEORGE WASHINGTON) as well as comedy (PINEAPPLE EXPRESS, THE SITTER, YOUR HIGHNESS). To this day I am still baffled that one director could have such a varied filmography, but I am glad he does.
