More trouble for the Justice League; Will Beall’s script reportedly “terrible”

Ah, Warner Bros.  The plight of your superhero stable beyond Batman continues.  Word on the street is now circulating that Will Beall‘s script for JUSTICE LEAGUE is being received with less than enthusiastic glee.  Beall, who is coming off the recent “meh” of GANGSTER SQUAD was hired to pen the draft, which has yet to attract any kind of big name talent in the director’s chair. 

Here’s the lowdown from Badass Digest:

“I’ve now heard from multiple sources that the Will Beall script for JUSTICE LEAGUE has been scrapped. The story from each source is the same: it’s terrible. Some sources seem to think the whole movie is going to fall apart and never happen, while some believe that Warner Bros will keep moving forward, unwilling to lose the superhero arms race.”

It seems that every single time I hear about the studio trying to get a grip on this project, from that ridiculous incursion into a comic book store to get the “pulse of the nerds” to the announcement of the film itself, which came as nothing but a name and a date, with no talent or direction outlined.  In many ways, the announcement seemed like a competitive one, meant to steal some wind out of Marvel’s sails.  Instead it’s just kind of blown in the breeze with nothing going.

Recently, Warner Bros. said that they’d be waiting to see how MAN OF STEEL does before moving forward and that may still be the case.  However, by tossing Beall’s script, they will have even more work cut out for them, since they’ll be taking a big step backwards.  The recent comments by Mark Millar may have stung the nerves of some fans, but they felt pretty dead-on to me and this issue only compounds his statements. 

Hopefully, Warner Bros. will get it together and find a director that can steer the ship and grasp the material soon.  Otherwise, I wouldn’t place any money on seeing a JUSTICE LEAGUE film on its proposed 2015 release window, if at all.
