New poster and image for After Earth features double the Smith’s; new trailer today

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

I still don’t know what to make of M. Night Shyamalan’s AFTER EARTH.  On one hand, it looks like it could be a really fun sci-fi flick and on another it looks like it could be a JOURNEY TO THE MYSTERIOUS ISLAND meets TWILIGHT ZONE nightmare.  You just never know with Shyamalan, especially with his spotty-as-hell track record.  Still, no one has anything to gain by the movie sucking, so I hope that it can pull out a win and be a fun jaunt.  Today, we have a VERY close look at the new poster for the film, which shows Will Smith and his clone son, Jaden Smith, in full view with the tagline “Danger is real. Fear is a choice.”

Not exactly an epic poster to hang on your wall, but there it is.  Additionally, we have a teaser pic of Jaden Smith running through the apocalyptic (?) forests of Earth and letting us know that a new trailer is coming today.  I’ll stop gabbing.  Take a look:

I wasn’t blown away by the first trailer, but it certainly intrigued me.  I like Will Smith, certainly, and young Jaden was surprisingly great in THE KARATE KID remake, so this may well show if he’s got the true gift, like his pops.  I think he’s got a fighting chance.  Tune in later today for the new trailer.

Here’s the synopsis:

One thousand years after cataclysmic events forced humanity’s escape from Earth, Nova Prime has become mankind’s new home. Legendary General Cypher Raige returns from an extended tour of duty to his estranged family, ready to be a father to his 13-year-old son, Kitai. When an asteroid storm damages Cypher and Kitai’s craft, they crash-land on a now unfamiliar and dangerous Earth. As his father lies dying in the cockpit, Kitai must trek across the hostile terrain to recover their rescue beacon. His whole life, Kitai has wanted nothing more than to be a soldier like his father. Today, he gets his chance.

AFTER EARTH hits theaters on June 7, 2013.
