The illustrious and infamous Kevin Smith took to the social media circuits today to share the news that his CLERKS III project will indeed be a film, rather than the previously reported book. Smith apparently awoke this morning with the desire to put some words on paper and once he got going made the decision that it will not only be a film, but “the best movie I’ll ever make.”
Here’s the official word and cover page of the script from Smith’s Facebook page:
A book about CLERKS seemed like a bad idea to begin with. What is clerks without the voices of Randal Graves (Jeff Anderson) and Dante Hicks (Brian O’Halloran)? If those guys are speaking lines of those characters than it needs to be heard, not read. I loved the original CLERKS and really dug CLERKS 2, so this news is all good for me. Smith has been back and forth on what CLERKS III would be, citing at one point that it would be his last film.
The Kevin Smith hater expressway will no doubt flood the below strikebacks and that’s expected. Personally, I think Smith excels when he’s in his “hood” and not trying to be a rom-com (JERSEY GIRL), straight comedy (COP OUT), or action thriller (RED STATE) director. He’s best with dick and fart jokes and that’s where he makes his best work. Nothing wrong with that.
We’ll see how it all shakes out as Smith continues to tap away at the script for CLERKS III.
