Of all the movies coming out this summer, I’m most curious to see how THE LONE RANGER does. Based on the general buzz of the film it seems like it may not fare well. However, those signals may not be the best indicator when you consider the overall assets involved in the film. An iconic (even if dated) character, Jerry Bruckheimer, Johnny Depp, Gore Verbinski, and Hans Zimmer on the score leave a lot of room for success, even if it’s a lot like Wild Wild Cowboys of the Caribbean.
Today, we have a new international trailer that has a ton of new footage, even after the large amount featured in the newest domestic trailer, which highlights the playful tone of the PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN franchise. I’m down with it, but I’m sure it will irk quite a few looking for a more “serious” film. However, it looks like there’s more than enough action to even things out.
Take a look:
A lot of folks liken THE LONE RANGER to PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN as a result of those involved on the film as a negative. However, when that “negative” equals a $1.2 billion franchise take, it’s a bit of an oxymoron. Granted, the reviews weren’t exactly smokin’ for the last two PIRATES films, but that didn’t affect the box office in the least. It’s more of an uphill battle for THE LONE RANGER, but I think it’s got more than a fighting chance to be a hit. As a fan of all involved and a lifelong Lone Ranger follower, I’m there (shit, did I just show my age?)
