Here’s a combination that seems like it should have happened sooner: Scarlett Johansson and Luc Besson.
THR is reporting that the actress is close to signing on to Besson’s newest film, LUCY. The director also wrote the script for the action-thriller and the film definately sounds like a Luc Besson production:
Lucy centers on a woman forced to become a drug mule. But the drug instead goes into her system, transforming her into an ass-kicking machine. She can absorb knowledge instantaneously, is able to move objects with her mind and can’t feel pain and other discomforts.
To me it sounds like a combination of HANNA, LIMITLESS, and MARIA FULL OF GRACE. Scarlett Johansson has proved that she’s more than capable of throwing down in IRON MAN 2 and THE AVENGERS, and I’d have no problem watching her kicking the shit out of people for an entire movie. LEON is one of my favorite films of all time so I’ll check out almost anything by Luc Besson and it sounds like LUCY is going to be more like his action films from the 90s than some of the most recent films he has directed like THE LADY and ARTHUR 3: THE WAR OF THE TWO WORLDS. LUCY should start filming after Johansson finishes filming on CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER.
Scarlett Johansson can be seen next in Joseph Gordon-Levitt‘s directing debut DON JON on October 18th, 2013, while Luc Besson‘s next film MALAVITA starring Robert De Niro, Michelle Pfeiffer, and Tommy Lee Jones will be released on September 20th, 2013.
