Chock full of the usual back-and-forth dialogue in uneasy and awkward situations, Wood Allen’s BLUE JASMINE appears to fit well within his reportoirre judging by the first trailer for the film. Starring Cate Blanchett as a well-to-do woman who is swindled by her conman husband, forcing her to live with her sister to get back on her feet. Like most of Allen’s work, everything hinges on character and performances, of which BLUE JASMINE is ripe with. Blanchett, who is always reliable, looks like she’ll be hamming it up as the downtrodden titular character with some potential breakouts for Bobby Cannavale, Louis C.K., and, yes, even Andrew Dice Clay.
Take a look:
I’m hot and cold with Woody Allen, but I can’t say there’s a movie of his I ever hated, even if I just didn’t really like it. The strength of all of his films is the actors, who just seem to really be at home with the filmmaker, making for a great experience watching actors simply act.
BLUE JASMINE is set for release on July 26, 2013.
