Alfonso Cuaron’s Gravity is called astonishing and brilliant after first Venice Film Festival screening

Alfonso Cuaron has earned the respect of the average movie fan and cinephiles alike for his outstanding filmography to date. Y TU MAMA TAMBIEN and CHILDREN OF MEN alone are pinnacles of his talent, but Cuaron was even able to take the HARRY POTTER franchise out of the realm of movies for kids and into a quality series for adults as well. Never one to rest on his laurels, Cuaron has returned to innovating the world of film with his latest, GRAVITY.

We have all seen the trailers and clips released so far for the 3D outer space thriller. I have been in awe of what looks like a completely unique movie-going experience. I cannot wait to see it. Some lucky folks got the chance during the film's first screening in advance of the Venice Film Festival and the results are better than I had hoped. Deadline reports that the words "brilliant" and "astonishing" have been thrown around already. GRAVITY may indeed be the film atop many top ten lists at the end of the year.

More and more is likely to be said about the film and likely not nearly as positive, but these reviews are bordering on acclaim rather than middle of the road. Many readers have complained about Sandra Bullock being the lead, but she may have found a role for film fans to get excited about. I want to see just how amazing this film looks in 3D. Cuaron met with James Cameron to ensure he was getting it perfect. If this is the closest I will get to space travel, I am glad it is coming from a filmmaker I respect.
