THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2 is out next year, but Sony has already announced plans for a third and fourth movie featuring the web-slinger. Many assume they will be building towards the Sinister Six in the second film, and one of the members of the villainous group could be Rhino, played by Paul Giamatti.
The actor was recently interviewed by Collider while promoting his upcoming film PARKLAND, and obviously Paul Giamatti couldn't reveal too much about Sony's plans involving the supervillain group ("It seems like that kind of thing. They have not told me anything hard and fast about that.") but Giamatti did confirm he signed a multi-picture deal to play Rhino. Paul Giamatti says he will appear in THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 3 as well, but isn't positive about THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 4. In fact, he was surprised release dates were already announced for the sequels.
Paul Giamatti also talked about how he was shocked by the level of interest in THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2, his involvement in the fourth season of Downton Abbey and if he ever got any residuals from the wine industry after SIDEWAYS in the interview, which you can check out in its entirety below.
At this point it's probably safe to say the Sinister Six are a part of Sony's plans for Spider-Man, and I know many fans have wanted to see Spidey battle the group on the big screen for a long time. One of my complaints with all the Spider-Man films is that it seems like he has never really had that tough of a time fighting the villains. In the comics Spider-Man is always getting the shit kicked out of him by multiple villains. Him overcoming the odds of surviving is one of the reasons why fans love the character, and it looks like Sony is trying to deliver just that with the next films.
THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2 swings into theaters May 2nd, 2014.
