Bryan Singer announces X-Men: Apocalypse will hit theaters in 2016

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

Well, holy shit, I didn’t see this coming. I mean I knew it was coming, but I didn’t expect the announcement to come this soon. In this day and age where superhero movies are the bread and butter for studios, they have to make sure to make a splash. Whether it be at San Diego Comic Con where we learned the AGE OF ULTRON title or that BATMAN VS. SUPERMAN is coming in 2015, a line must be drawn so that they can guarantee droves will turn out for their films.

As fans warm up more and more to X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST via the trailer and photos from the movie, the question of what is next for the X-MEN franchise is being answered. Bryan Singer tweeted the following just this afternoon:

The Wrap also confirms that Singer’s tweet is the title of the next film. X-MEN: APOCALYPSE will be hitting theaters on May 27, 2016 which puts it right between an untitled Marvel movie on May 6, 2016 and THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 3 on June 10th, 2016.

Marvel fans know that Apocalypse is a major villain in X-Men history and one that fans will be very excited to see on the big screen. But, this also raises a ton of questions: Will Bryan Singer be directing X-MEN: APOCALYPSE? Will this be a sequel with the original trilogy cast or the FIRST CLASS versions? Will we be getting two distinct series for the old and young characters going forward? The mind boggles at the possibilities.

What we do know is that X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST is still coming on May 23, 2014 and will most assuredly feature some sort of credits tease for X-MEN: APOCALYPSE.
