Just as the outcry over the casting of Ben Affleck as Batman has died down, the furor over Gal Gadot being named the first big screen Wonder Woman is still in full force. Nerd-rage over the actress not being experienced enough, physically imposing enough, or even buxom enough has been consistent and BATMAN VS SUPERMAN still seems to be headed in the wrong direction for many. Some feel that the character will be window dressing as Warner Bros ramps up for the long in development JUSTICE LEAGUE movie but now one of the producers on the project is trying to set the record straight.
MAN OF STEEL and BATMAN VS SUPERMAN producer Wesley Coller spoke at a University of Michigan event last week and was asked about how Wonder Woman will be portrayed on the big screen. This was his response.
[S]omething that’s become a reality, being a dad with a new daughter, is that I have a special place in my heart for the idea of a strong, empowered female superhero being out there.”
“We’re super excited to have her in the film, it will be a ton of fun,”
Coller went on to say that they are completely focused on BATMAN VS SUPERMAN and there are currently no plans for a standalone Wonder Woman movie. While it is likely true that they are focused on BATMAN VS SUPERMAN and getting it right, I am also certain that Warner Bros is still doing everything they can to outline and prepare all of their DC properties, including a prospective Wonder Woman film if all goes according to plan.
But, Coller will not be the final say in how things go down with BATMAN VS SUPERMAN. That will fall to Zack Snyder, David Goyer, new screenwriter Chris Terrio, and the cast. We will find out for ourselves when BATMAN VS SUPERMAN hits theaters on July 17, 2015.
