Mark Wahlberg carries a big effing gun in this new Transformers 4 poster

One of the biggest mistakes that Paramount and Michael Bay made with the first three TRANSFORMERS was putting too much focus on the robots themselves. I know that sounds counter-intuitive, but hear me out. When the biggest faces you can put on your movie poster are CGI robots, what does that say about the caliber of acting in the movie? Shia LaBeouf and Megan Fox were serviceable as the humans in the first movie, but as the trilogy wore on, the central focus became big explosions and screeching metal.

The first character poster for TRANSFORMERS: AGE OF EXTINCTION has been revealed and it looks like the studio is going to market this film on the marquee name that is Mark Wahlberg. Front and center in this one sheet is the star of Michael Bay‘s movie as his character, Cade Yeager. In his hands is some sort of gun-sword-thing and a huge robot lurks in the background. But, there can be no mistake that the star of this movie is Wahlberg and not an Autobot.

A mechanic and his daughter make a discovery that brings down Autobots and Decepticons – and a paranoid government official – on them.

Granted, this is one poster of what will surely be many, but at least they are trying to start off on the right foot. I mean, there is a gigantic robot dinosaur in the trailer, how realistic is it going to get? I just hope that all of the hype we are being fed from Bay and company is true and this movie will be way better than the three we have already gotten.

TRANSFORMERS: AGE OF EXTINCTION starring Mark Wahlberg, Stanley Tucci, Kelsey Grammer, Nicola Peltz, Sophia Myles and T.J. Miller will be released on June 27th, 2014.
