HBO renews Game of Thrones through season six

Did you catch the season 4 premiere of GAME OF THRONES this past Sunday? Or were you one of the folks who contributed to the crash of HBO GO? Either way, HBO made formal an announcement that we all expected by stating that GAME OF THRONES will be returning for a fifth and sixth season.

With at least two books to adapt after the current season, GAME OF THRONES could conceivably last for another four seasons if the season 3/4 trend of splitting the books in half continues. The fourth and fifth novels in George R.R. Martin’s fantasy epic are increasingly longer in length and have plenty of material to adapt as the author works to complete the final two volumes in the series.

HBO President of programming Michael Lombardo gave this statement about the two season renewal.

“GAME OF THRONES is a phenomenon like no other,” noted Lombardo. “David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, along with their talented collaborators, continue to surpass themselves, and we look forward to more of their dazzling storytelling.”

Much like THE WALKING DEAD, GAME OF THRONES has a fervent fan base that seems to grow with each successive season, a rarity in modern television. With some major and shocking events still to come in the nine remaining episodes this season, stay tuned for a lot more GAME OF THRONES news here at JoBlo.com.

GAME OF THRONES airs Sunday nights on HBO.
