Ice Cube’s son to play rapper in N.W.A. biopic straight outta compton

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

I love the smell of Nepotism in the morning, smells like Hollywood. The long in development NWA biopic STRAIGHT OUTTA COMPTON is closer to actually happening now with some interesting casting news. You may have heard the rumors a couple of years ago that Dr. Dre and Ice Cube wanted to cast their sons in the movie, now The Wrap reports that O’Shea Jackson Jr., aka Ice Cube Jr., will play his father in the film.

F. Gary Gray (THE ITALIAN JOB) is directing the biopic which Cube previously described as a “dramatic story that encompasses hip-hop, dope-dealing, Reaganomics, AIDS, LAPD, rap feuds, FBI, PMRC, the Parental Advisory stickers on the records… all of it.” The report also mentioned that Eazy-E’s son has been lobbying for a role but an unknown actor is likely to win the part and that Universal could announce the main cast this week. Ice Cube apparently convinced executives that despite his lack of acting experience, O’Shea Jr. could handle the pressure and was up for the challenge.

Ice Cube, Dr. Dre and Eazy-E’s widow are producing the Universal movie which, aforementioned nepotism joke aside, does sound like it is going through a lot of auditions outside of the family as well to get it right. So it sounds like this movie is finally getting a move on again and that has to make a lot of people happy as well as anxious to see how it all turns out.

I would reference some lyrics from the titular album right now, but I keep it PG like Brian Williams.
