We shared the first teaser trailer for DEAR WHITE PEOPLE last month which nearly split our readers judging by the comments. The upcoming indie film is a racially charged that showcases a lot of tongue-in-cheek humor that should be taken into account first before judging the movie. The full trailer has arrived and it’s full of well-done racial humor and satire; that was definitely not an easy task to accomplish.
The film was written and directed by Justin Simien who makes his feature debut and follows the stories of four black students at an Ivy League college where a riot breaks out over a popular "African American" themed party thrown by white students. It’s said to be based on Simien's own experiences at a predominately white university.
DEAR WHITE PEOPLE stars Tyler James Williams (Everybody Hates Chris, Peeples), Tessa Thompson (For Colored Girls, Veronica Mars), Teyonah Parris (Mad Men, They Came Together), Brandon P. Bell (Hollywood Heights), Kyle Gallner (A Nightmare on Elm Street, CBGB), Malcolm Barrett (The Hurt Locker), Brittany Curran (Chicago Fire), Marque Richardson (“The Newsroom”) and Dennis Haysbert (24, Far From Heaven).
What did you think of the trailer? Will you be finding this one upon release?
DEAR WHITE PEOPLE opens October 17th, 2014.
