Christopher Walken to voice King Louie in Jon Favreau’s The Jungle Book

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

The all-star cast of Jon Favreau‘s THE JUNGLE BOOK just added another pair of iconic voices to the animal kingdom. Joining Scarlett Johannson, Lupita Nyong’o, Ben Kingsley, and Idris Elba will be BREAKING BAD’s Giancarlo Esposito and the one and only Christopher Walken. Esposito will voice Akela, leader of a pack of wolves while Walken will portray the orangutan King Louie.

Fans of the Disney cartoon classic will instantly recognize King Louie as the scat-singing voice of Louis Prima in the number “I Want To Be Like You”. King Louie is primarily comic relief in the film but also represents an important growth moment for Mowgli and Baloo. Walken’s background in musical theater should make this a very entertaining addition to the cast of the film.

Favreau’s film is sure to blend a lot of CGI with the live action performers, but it still remains to be seen if the Disney music will be utilized in the feature. Of the voice cast, Johannson and Walken have musical backgrounds so it is still a possibility.

THE JUNGLE BOOK will hit theaters in 3D on October 9, 2015.
