Below is the first trailer for CUB, it’s so well executed that it deserved that post title, just trust me on this. No hyperbole, just one man’s opinion really, so do with it what you will. It's a Belgian film that tackles some horror elements that could have easily come across as cliché but instead gave me the creeps like a good trailer should. Jonas Govaerts makes his feature film debut with this movie starring Maurice Luijten, Titus De Voogdt, Stef Aerts, Evelien Bosmans and Jan Hammenecker.
Here’s the synopsis:
Troubled twelve-year-old Sam (Maurice Luijten) heads off on a summer camping trip with his Cub Scout troupe. When the highly imaginative boy claims to have seen a creature in the woods, his counsellors naturally assume that their campfire tales of a monster named Kai have gotten to him. But the danger Sam sees is all too real: watching from the darkness is a masked, feral child whose menacing snarl and quick movements go unnoticed by all except for Sam. As the mocking taunts of the other boys isolate Sam further from his pack, he becomes increasingly convinced that a terrible fate awaits them all.
If you’re still not on board after the ominous singing that you can’t understand, I don’t know what to do. It’s creepy as hell and looks like a lot of fun. The film will play at this year’s Toronto International Film Festival in the Midnight Madness program; there’s currently no U.S. release date.
What a great poster too:
