Justin Lin in talks to helm the first 2 episodes of True Detective season 2

As rumors continue to swirl about what Nic Pizzolatto has planned for a follow-up to the critically acclaimed debut season of TRUE DETECTIVE, we still know next to nothing, including cast, crew, or plot details. Sure, everyone and their mother has been named as a potential casting choice for the new season, but we don’t have anything solid to go on.

While the first season was directed entirely by Cary Fukunaga, it looks like helming duties may be mixed up for the second run, according to Deadline reports that FAST AND FURIOUS 6 and BOURNE 5 director Justin Lin is in talks to direct the first two episodes of TRUE DETECTIVE’s second season. HBO has declined to comment on this news just as they have on the casting rumors of Vince Vaughn, Colin Farrell, Taylor Kitsch and many others. We do know the tone will likely be lighter than the first season and that location for filming is switching to California.

Despite not winning the Emmy for series or stars Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson, Cary Fukunaga nabbed the directing award and TRUE DETECTIVE has become permanently entrenched in the annals of quality TV. Here’s hoping we aren’t setting ourselves up for disappointment with what will hopefully be another amazing run of episodes.

TRUE DETECTIVE may return as early as January 2015 on HBO.
