Michael Douglas will not wear a superhero costume in Ant-Man

With the little information we have surrounding the Peyton Reed version of ANT-MAN, it is almost impossible to differentiate between what was going to happen in the Edgar Wright take on the film and what we will see on screen next summer. For instance, we know that Michael Douglas will play an older version of Hank Pym as he hands off his suit to Paul Rudd‘s Scott Lang. But, there was still some hope we would be getting flashbacks to the 1960s where Douglas would don the Ant-Man suit to battle bad guys.

According to an interview with MTV, that doesn’t seem to be the case any longer. When asked about his superhero duds at the Toronto Film Festival, here was Douglas’ answer.

“My costume will be hung up, and Paul will be wearing it in good form.”

That does not entirely rule out seeing a young Hank Pym suited up to shrink, it may just not be Douglas in the costume. I was hoping we would see Pym in his prime, but it doesn’t appear that is the case. Who knows how much was changed when Wright and Joe Cornish left, to be replaced by Reed and Adam McKay, but we do know that Paul Rudd has been preparing for his superhero debut for a long while, according to Douglas.

Paul Rudd is ripped. He’s been training and working out for this picture for a long time. He was so cut, that they had to soften his costume up, with all the built-in six-packs and all of that.”

Don’t rule anything out, folks. We were all skeptical of GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY until the photos and footage began to roll out. There is still hope for ANT-MAN. We will likely just have to wait until July 17, 2015 to find out for sure.
