Jeff Goldblum says he has a part in the Independence Day sequel

Independence Day Jeff Goldblum Will Smith Banner

Despite Will Smith refusing to return for the developing sequels to INDEPENDENCE DAY, another star of the first film seems keen to reprise his role. Jeff Goldblum, who personified 1990s scifi with his turns in ID4 and JURASSIC PARK, has not confirmed whether he will appear in INDEPENDENCE DAY 2, but it seems the plans are leaning that way.

Goldblum was interviewed by Time Magazine and shared this update on the status of the movie.

“I had a meeting and have been talking over the last several months or year with Roland Emmerich and Dean Devlin, the producer, and they’ve been cooking up and say they have a part for me in what they hope will be a plan to make another one pretty soon. Maybe last weekend there was a script handed in, so it’s brewing,"

The actor starred alongside Will Smith as the scientist who discovered a way to link a MacBook to an alien mothership to deliver a computer virus, a wholly inconceivable idea in an otherwise pulpy good time movie. Still, the character of David Levinson, alongside the potential return of Bill Pullman as the President, could be a nice connection between the first and second films.

To date, we have heard that 20th Century Fox still plans to release ID4EVER on July 1, 2016, so hopefully this is good news that the script is developing. Hopefully we hear more soon.
