Ash vs Evil Dead TV series starring Bruce Campbell will air on Starz in 2015

Hail to the king, baby! Ash is back!

Back in July, we first heard news that Bruce Campbell would star in an EVIL DEAD series, but since then the details have been sparse. The B-movie superstar long linked to Sam Raimi's horror franchise returning to his iconic role seemed too good to be true for horror fans, but now it looks like it is a reality. Entertainment Weekly has confirmed the series will air on pay cable network Starz beginning next year. They even have a synopsis for the show.

Bruce Campbell will be reprising his role as Ash, the stock boy, aging lothario and chainsaw-handed monster hunter who has spent the last 30 years avoiding responsibility, maturity and the terrors of the Evil Dead. When a Deadite plague threatens to destroy all of mankind, Ash is finally forced to face his demons –personal and literal. Destiny, it turns out, has no plans to release the unlikely hero from its ‘Evil’ grip.

One would assume the series will follow ARMY OF DARKNESS rather than the recent reboot. The series will be ten half hour episodes and will be called ASH VS. EVIL DEAD or something new to allow the feature films to continue. Sam Raimi and producing partner Rob Tapert have a history with Starz as their SPARTACUS series had a nice run on the network. We also know Starz will not shy away from massive amounts of violence and gore, so EVIL DEAD fans should be very happy.

Bruce Campbell had this to say about the series.

“I’m really excited to bring this series to the Evil Dead fans worldwide — it’s going to be everything they have been clamoring for: serious deadite ass-kicking and plenty of outrageous humor,”

While Raimi is writing and directing the pilot, having Bruce Campbell back as Ash means this show already has me down for a series pass. Here's hoping Raimi stays close to the project for the entire run.

ASH VS. EVIL DEAD will premiere on Starz in 2015.
