There's been talk of Jamie Foxx portraying Mike Tyson on the silver screen for some time, but it looks like shit's about to get that much more real. Last year, Tyson spoke out about the project, stating that performance capture technology would help Foxx get the look down on the famous boxer. Aside from Foxx as the lead, Martin Scorsese producing in some capacity and THE WOLF OF WALL STREET screenwriter Terence Winter penning the thing, everything else was up in the air. It looks like the project may now have a director, according to Foxx.

Jamie Foxx had this to say about the project:

I just went in with Paramount with Mike Tyson. So I’m going to do the Mike Tyson story. Listen, to be in the same room pitching Mike Tyson to Paramount, Mike Tyson is on one side, I’m on the other side doing Mike Tyson at the same time. And Martin Scorsese at the helm. This will be the first boxing movie that Martin Scorsese has done since 'Raging Bull.'

Martin Scorsese is a director that demands attention, and it certainly helps that his last film effort, THE WOLF OF WALL STREET, turned out to be one of his best. Scorsese is currently gearing up to shoot SILENCE, the story of two 17th-century Jesuit priests who travel to Japan to investigate claims of religious persecution starring Andrew Garfield, Adam Driver and Liam Neeson. There's been no official word from Scorsese yet, but given what he did with RAGING BULL, I don't think many will cry foul to have him jump back into the ring.
