While we may not be a comic book website, there are occassionally stories that warrant reporting. For instance, the recent news that a major character has been killed off in the TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES comic book seems like pretty big news. Now, I know that comic books have a long history of killing off characters only to resurrect them or reset the entire fictional universe, but this is new for the TMNT comics and seems a bit more permanent.
The new run of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, penned by Tom Waltz and TMNT co-creator Kevin Eastman, has been more violent and grounded in realism that prior runs of the book or animated series, but it still seems that the latest events are more jaw-dropping than many may have expected. Here is a quick summary from IGN:
As for how it happened, Leonardo, Raphael, and Michelangelo were trying to stop Krang from terraforming the planet using the alien "Technodrome," leaving Donatello running command from their home base. Shredder had ordered Bebop and Rocksteady to kill Donatello if anything went wrong, and sure enough, something did.
Their site has the actual page images featuring Donatello's death and the final page of the comic showing all of the heroes mourning their fallen friend and brother. Whether the death sticks or not remains to be seen, but there is always the chance the team behind the big screen TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES franchise could use this same plot for the upcoming movie. We already learned that Rocksteady and Bebop would be in the sequel to TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES, so why not go big and shock audiences?
The sequel to TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES is slated to hit theaters on .
