Solid Snake lives: Jay Basu to write Metal Gear Solid for Sony

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

The METAL GEAR SOLID film has been in the works for quite some time, with some doubting (or hoping) that it would ever happen. Those looking forward to the project can rejoice as one more major hurdle has just been overcome; Deadline reports that Jay Basu has closed a deal to pen the script for the video-game adaptation. THE KINGS OF SUMMER director Jordan Vogt-Roberts is still attached to helm the project with Avi and Ari Arad producing. Will the film actually get off the ground this time?

The original game synopsis:

Snake, a soldier who infiltrates a nuclear weapons facility to neutralize the terrorist threat from Foxhound, a renegade special forces unit. As part of his mission, Snake must liberate hostages before confronting the terrorists in order to stop them from launching a nuclear strike.

You may have heard Jay Basu’s name pop up last year when it was announced that he was tapped by Universal to aid in the relaunch of its Universal Monsters franchise, a project I’m very much hoping will not suck but currently don't have a lot of hope for. In regards to this METAL GEAR SOLID film I suppose that I should confess that, while I am aware of Metal Gear Solid, I've spent a grand total of thirty seconds in Solid Snake's world. A friend grabbed the controller from me because I couldn't play worth a damn. He was right to do it.

Now the big question, who do you see as the live-action Solid Snake?
