Has there ever been a popular horror franchise that actually quit while it was ahead? It's like some other worldly force drives them to churn out more and more installments of increasingly dubious quality; oh right, it's money. If INSIDIOUS: CHAPTER 3 director Leigh Whannell has his way, the INSIDIOUS franchise could have many more years of life left following this third chapter. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly the director/writer was asked what the future of the INSIDIOUS franchise might be:
This third film really sets up the Insidious universe to go on, if it was successful enough, now you have Elise, the central character, as a medium, and she has her two kind of bumbling assistants, and you have all these years between the third film and the first movie: You’ve got 2009, 2010. Great years! I can imagine [it] being set up as almost a James Bond-esque franchise where Elise goes into different situations with different families, and is fighting or defeating these different demons. As far as it actually happening? I’m not sure yet. I’m actually quite superstitious about films [before they are] released. I always have been, but that’s gone into overdrive now I’m a director.
While INSIDIOUS definitely struck a chord with me, its sequel fell short in my opinion; but should INSIDIOUS: CHAPTER 3 bring the franchise back on track I'd definitely be open to more stories following Elise and her "bumbling assistants." Oh god, I'm part of the problem.
INSIDIOUS: CHAPTER 3 jump-scare's its way into theaters June 5, 2015.
Are you open to more INSIDIOUS sequels or should they end it already?
