Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone are in talks for Damien Chazelle’s La La Land

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

Damien Chazelle is hard at work on LA LA LAND, his follow-up to WHIPLASH, and Deadline reports that Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone are circling the lead roles. This news comes as a bit of a surprise as we'd previously believed that LA LA LAND was going to reunite Chazelle with his WHIPLASH star Miles Teller, but according to Deadline the actor has since moved on. This isn't the first time an actor has left the film, Emma Watson was in talks for the female lead but ended up heading over to Disney for BEAUTY AND THE BEAST.

The synopsis reads:

La La Land follows an aspiring actress Mia, who's lonely desperate to fit in, and cocky yet charismatic jazz pianist Sebastian — who fall in love in Los Angeles. However, the city that brought them together may tear them apart, as they soon discover that balancing love and art in such a cutthroat climate isn't easy.

LA LA LAND has been a passion project of Damien Chazelle for some time and given the great work he did with WHIPLASH, I'm really rooting for this project to come together. Neither Gosling nor Stone have finalized any contracts yet but everyone involved is said to be working very hard to make that happen. Should everything go as planned LA LA LAND will begin filming this fall. Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling have worked together before in CRAZY STUPID LOVE and GANGSTER SQUAD, so I'm sure that previous experience would only be beneficial to a film such as LA LA LAND.
