Joss Whedon talks up Batman and Star Wars and his possible involvement

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON opens one week from today (in the States, anyway) and as you no doubt have noticed, writer/director Joss Whedon will be taking a much-needed break from the Marvel-verse to explore what else he has going on in his head. In the meantime, he’s been answering questions left and right about what’s going down with the Avengers, as well as other franchises that are coming down the pipeline. Namely, BATMAN V SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE and STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS.

If Joss Whedon could bring over any DC character into the Marvel universe:

Nobody doesn’t want Batman. Everyone wants to play with Batman. C’mon, that’s just a given. He’d be the first.

Regarding how DC is setting up their films:

I’m a fan. I get very confused when people are like, ‘Oh you guys are in competition,’ and I’m like, ‘Competition for what?’ Their movies are so different. The Marvel aesthetic and the DC aesthetic couldn’t be more opposite and I love that. I love going to their movies. I wanna see how they build their team. I wanna see Affleck play Batman. I’m excited about the whole thing.

Joss Whedon‘s thoughts on newest THE FORCE AWAKENS teaser:

You don’t think, you feel, and I felt the same way as everyone else.

Whether or not he’s consider working on a STAR WARS film:

Of course I’d consider it, but I have just spend 5 years inside a giant franchise factory with enourmous freedom and restrictions with characters I haven’t created. I think I do need to find out what’s in [my head] first.

Now, obviously he’s speaking in a very passive manor in regards to working on either franchise. After all, I somehow doubt that Warner Bros. and DC would actually let him use Batman for Marvel, or even seek him out to get him involved on their end. On the other hand, given Disney’s ties to Marvel and Lucasfilm, as well as Whedon’s knack for assembling multiple characters and telling a solid story, one wonders if he would ever be approached for a Star Wars film down the road. At the very least, he didn’t’ flat out say that he had no interest. These STAR WARS ANTHOLOGY films have certainly opened the floodgates and now there’s a much larger universe for opportunity. Who knows? Stranger things have happened!
