First poster for Denis Villeneuve’s Sicario; plus images and synopsis

Last Updated on August 5, 2021

After the one-two punch of PRISONERS and ENEMY I knew that I'd have to keep a close eye on whatever Denis Villeneuve chose to do next. His next film, SICARIO, is set to debut at Cannes on May 19 and we've got our first look at the film's poster as well as a better understanding on what Villeneuve will be giving us.

Denis Villeneuve, who calls SICARIO “a very dark film, a dark poem, quite violent”, talks a little about what we can expect from the film which stars Emily Blunt, Benicio Del Toro, Josh Brolin, and Jon Bernthal:

The movie is about America … how America fantasises that it can solve problems beyond its borders, and about the collateral damage that results … and the legality and moral issues around that … It’s a movie that deals with idealism and realism and the tension between both … It takes place on the Mexican border, but it could have just as easily have been set in Afghanistan or the Middle East or various countries in Africa. In North America, we allow ourselves to do things that other countries can’t afford to.

While the film will be premiering at Cannes next week, those of us who can't make it will have to wait until September 18, 2015 when the film opens theatrically.

Lets take a look at what SICARIO is all about:

In Mexico, SICARIO means hitman. In the lawless border area stretching between the U.S. and Mexico, an idealistic FBI agent [Emily Blunt] is enlisted by an elite government task force official [Josh Brolin] to aid in the escalating war against drugs. Led by an enigmatic consultant with a questionable past [Benicio Del Toro], the team sets out on a clandestine journey forcing Kate to question everything that she believes in order to survive.

Denis Villeneuve's career is certainly growing, in addition to SICARIO the director also has the sci-fi drama STORY OF YOUR LIFE with Amy Adams and Jeremy Renner coming up as well as being attached to the BLADE RUNNER sequel.
