James Gunn completes Guardians 2 draft; Chris Pratt reveals his sequel hopes

Last Updated on August 5, 2021

I don't know how many of you were expecting GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY to be as big (or as fun) as it ended up being but I'm not ashamed to admit that I was not one of them. Beyond a few details, I was completely unfamiliar with the characters and the world Marvel would present us with; but they knew what they had, and it paid off. GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY 2 is still several years off and there remains quite a lot of work to be done, but I'm already excited.

Director James Gunn recently completed his first draft of GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY 2 and shared a very brief glimpse at the fruits of his labour:

The eagle-eyed among you may notice that Gunn reveals that GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY 2 will NOT be the official title, which begs the question…what could it be? Star-Lord himself (who?) spoke with IGN recently where he admitted that he hasn't been briefed on what the future may bring the Guardians, but he did touch on what he'd like to see in the sequel:

I think like the universe itself it’s best to expand outward. I don’t personally – and it’s not up to me, I’ll do whatever they want me to do – I don’t want to see the Guardians defend Cleveland, Ohio. We’re cosmic man. I want to be in space.

I agree with Chris Pratt, after the wonderful space-based shenanigans that the first film gave us I'd be hesitant to see the Guardians kicking back with Tony Stark and the like on Earth. What I would like to see in the inevitable team-up is the Earth-based heroes traveling into space themselves and running into Peter Quill. We've already seen outsider's adjusting to Earth, lets switch it up and blow Tony Stark's mind by showing him a giant head floating in space.

GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY 2 should begin filming early next year for a May 5, 2017 release.

Sound off with your suggestions for the title of GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY 2 below.
