It's been over a year since there's been any movement on the project, but an animated film adaptation of the John Layman and Rob Guillory comic Chew is still in the works, and THR is reporting that David Tennant (Doctor Who, 2011's FRIGHT NIGHT) will provide the voice of Tony Chu's mentor-turned-villain Mason Savoy. Tennant is taking over for Robin Williams, who was originally in talks for Savoy before he passed away last year.

The Walking Dead's Steven Yeun is voicing cibopath and FDA agent Tony Chu, and The Guild creator and Supernatural actress Felicia Day is voicing Amelia Mintz, a saboscrivner (a person with the ability to "write about food so accurately that people get the sensation of taste when they read about the food") and Tony's love interest. Torchwood: Web of Lies and Peter Panzerfaust's Jeff Krelitz is directing CHEW from a script by John Layman, and his Eisner and Harvey Award-winning comic "centers on a detective (Chu) who is a cibopath, a person who gets psychic impressions from whatever he eats, and is set in a world where bird meats are illegal after bird flu killed millions of Americans."

Although I'm really behind on the comics, I loved the first four volumes. CHEW might be getting a direct-to-DVD/VOD release instead of a theatrical one, but I'm still very excited to check out the upcoming film. David Tennant can be seen as Kilgrave/The Purple Man in Marvel and Netflix's Jessica Jones series, which is expected to premiere later this year.
