Here is the trailer for HBO’s Show Me A Hero from the creator of The Wire

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

I was late to watching The Wire and only just binge-watched the entire series last year. I have to say I was enthralled by the intricate and sprawling series. I have yet to give Treme a shot, but knowing that the creator of both shows has a new project at HBO has me intrigued. The first trailer has debuted for the mini-series Show Me A Hero and it looks really, really good.

Starring Oscar Isaac, Catherine Keener, Alfred Molina, Winona Ryder, Jon Bernthal, and Jim Belushi, the six part series will tell a true story. It comes to us from CRASH director Paul Haggis, so you can imagine this is going to be a buzzy project come awards season. Here’s the plot of the series.

The story takes place in the 1980s and ’90s and follows Oscar Isaac as Nick Wasicsko, a young Yonkers mayor who finds himself at the crossroads of race and politics when he is instructed to build low-income housing units in his largely Caucasian community. He hopes to be on the right side of history, but at what cost?

Oscar Isaac has quickly been becoming one of my favorite actors working today. From INSIDE LLEWYN DAVIS to A MOST VIOLENT YEAR, Isaac has shown his dramatic chops. He will next become known to mainstream audiences for playing a hero in STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS and a villain in X-MEN: APOCALYPSE, but Show Me A Hero may be the truest example of what he is capable of in a lead role.

Show Me A Hero debuts on HBO on August 16th.
