The Exorcist’s Max von Sydow joins season six of Game of Thrones

HBO is adding some serious thespian talent to the sixth season of Game of Thrones; just this morning it was reported that Ian McShane (Deadwood) had joined the show as an unknown character of "key importance," and now Entertainment Weekly is reporting that Max von Sydow (THE EXORCIST) has signed on for show's sixth season as well. Best of all, we don't have to be kept in the dark as to who Sydow is playing, in fact, we've already met his character.

At the close of season four Bran (Isaac Hempstead Wright) and company met up with the mysterious Three-Eyed Raven, played in that episode by Struan Rodger, who seemed to be set up as a tutor for Bran. That was the last we saw of Bran, as he remained absent for the entirety of the fifth season, but with Bran's storyline set to return in a big way in the show's upcoming sixth season, the Three-Eyed Raven has been recast with Max von Sydow. The sixth season of Game of Thrones is currently in production and Max von Sydow has already been filming on the set.

Max von Sydow will next be seen in STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS; perhaps he'll run into his fellow Star Wars co-star Gwendoline Christie (Brienne of Tarth) while playing around in George R.R. Martin's world.
