The Strain renewed for Season 3; series to conclude with Season 5

Whether you are watching The Strain or not, you can expect to hear about the series for at least one more year and three more if the showrunners have a say about it. Based on a trilogy of novels by Guillermo Del Toro and Chuck Hogan, The Strain was originally envisioned as a feature film. When no one wanted to finance it, it became an FX original series. Now, despite mediocre critical reviews, the show has built a decent viewership and the story will be seen through.

Deadline reported on the renewal of the series for a third season to air in 2016. Despite dips in the ratings, DVR numbers are high for the show which led to the renewal. The first season was based primarily on the first novel with the current second season taking the first half of the second book as it's inspiration. The below tweet should help plot out where the next three seasons will go.

Carlton Cuse is already producing and showrunning The Strain along with A&E series Bates Motel and The Returned. All three of the shows seem to be stretching it a bit and maybe that is because Cuse cannot conceivably run all three to his fullest. But, at least the map is drawn for where The Strain will go from here.

The Strain airs Sundays on FX. There are nine episodes to go this season with the finale airing October 4th.
