New story details on Alice Through the Looking Glass and Pete’s Dragon

Tim Burton's ALICE IN WONDERLAND was quick to jump on the 3D bandwagon after AVATAR, and by all accounts, the box-office returns indicated it was a huge success. I know there are A LOT of you not happy with the story, so let's see if this sequel can accomplish something more. While Tim Burton isn't returning for the follow-up, ALICE THROUGH THE LOOKING GLASS was initially said to follow Lewis Carrol's second book. Thanks to the Disney D23 expo, we now have a little more information on where it will deviate from the source material.

JimmyO was on-hand (and foot) to check out the panel which premiered some footage from the film. The clip showed that the story takes place some time after the first film, with Alice having returned to the real world. That is, until she is beckoned back to Wonderland. Falling back into Wonderland through a door in the sky, she finds that the Mad Hatter has turned even madder, and that she must travel back in time to save him. Alice will revisit younger versions of many of the characters seen in the original in an effort to right what has been wronged. No word yet if "something's gotta be done about her kids!" Stars Mia Wasikowska and Johnny Depp will return along with Helena Bonham Carter and Anne Hathaway. Sacha Baron Cohen will be using his charisma to potray Time itself. If anyone could do it in that topsy-turvy world, it'd be him!

ALICE THROUGH THE LOOKING GLASS will hit theaters on May 27, 2016.

JimmyO also had a chance to check out the panel for PETE'S DRAGON. There may not be too many folks who grew up with the original, but according the very brief clip shown, the remake looks to change the tone into something a little more realistic. The set-up is that a young boy has survived, seemingly on his own, for six years in the woods. Cut to Robert Redford looking at a crude child's drawing of a dragon, and Pete setting his hand down to pet an actual dragon covered in hair. This one isn't set to hit theaters until August 12 of 2016, so we probably won't see much more until next year.
