First trailer for The Final Girls challenges you to survive a slasher film

Those of us who have seen more than our share of horror films are very familiar with all the tropes the genre is known for, but if we were suddenly thrust into a real-life horror film, would any of us have what it took to survive? Todd Strauss-Schulson's THE FINAL GIRLS deals with just that as Max (Taissa Farmiga) and a group of her friends are somehow transported into a 1980's horror film called Camp Bloodbath which starred Max's mother (Malin Akerman).

Poking fun at horror tropes is nothing new, but THE FINAL GIRLS looks to offer a nice blend of horror and comedy delivered by a fun cast. Director Todd Strauss-Schulson described THE FINAL GIRLS as such: "it's 'Pleasantville' in a trashy horror movie from the 80's with a little 'Back To the Future' thrown in and a spoon full of 'Terms of Endearment' with a dash of 'Scream' and 2 dollops of 'Purple Rose of Cairo' for good measure."

THE FINAL GIRLS synopsis:

When Max (Taissa Farmiga) and her friends reluctantly attend a screening of "Camp Bloodbath," an infamous ‘80s cult horror film that starred Max’s late mother (Malin Akerman), they are accidentally sucked into the silver screen. They soon realize they’re trapped inside the movie and must team up with the horny, regan-era idiot “Camp Bloodbath” counselors — including Max’s mom as the shy scream queen — to battle the film’s machete-wielding killer, Billy Murphy. Face to face with her mother for the first time in years, Max has a second chance not only to see her, but to save her, and with the help of her friends, get back home before Billy kills them all.

THE FINAL GIRLS opens on October 9, 2015.
