Anthony Daniels calls the secrecy behind The Force Awakens “ludicrous”

The full force of J.J. Abrams "mystery box" has been lessened somewhat for STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS, but I have to say that I've found the amount of details Disney/Lucasfilm have been releasing to be pretty damn perfect; not too much, but not too little. However one of the cast-members of STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS has dubbed the secrecy behind the film as "ludicrous."

Anthony Daniels, who has played C-3PO in all six Star Wars films and will reprise the role in THE FORCE AWAKENS, spoke with The Guardian recently and expressed a little distaste at the lengths Disney has gone to in order to keep the whole production under wraps:

The secrecy has been beyond ludicrous, for heaven’s sake, it’s a movie. When I got the script, it was typed in black on paper of the deepest red so you couldn’t photocopy it. I got a hangover just reading it.

The actor was even censored by Disney after he mentioned a fellow actor who appears in STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS on Twitter:

I said that I’d met so-and-so. An actor who plays a … thing in the film. A character. Immediately I received a message from Disney: ‘Remove the tweet! You’re not allowed to say that!’ Honestly. It’s a kind of Kremlin attitude. Look, I know perfectly well not to tell you now what I’m giving you for a Christmas present because it would spoil the surprise. And these films are all about opening the box on Christmas Day.

After appearing in the three Star Wars prequels, Daniels admitted that he wasn't impressed with their reliance on completely digital sets, calling them cold and bleak; however he's been quite happy with J.J. Abrams return to practical sets for THE FORCE AWAKENS saying that "it became clear early on that with JJ we were getting back to the old-fashioned kind of film-making. We have walls. Actual sets! All right, so you might not have a view out of the window, but you have a window."

STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS opens on December 18, 2015.
