What's going on over at GAMBIT headquarters? First news emerged that Channing Tatum's deal wasn't as solid as we were led to believe (it all worked out in the end) and now Deadline is reporting that GAMBIT director Rupert Wyatt has exited the project. The film was scheduled to start shooting this November but Deadline's sources say that the start date was then moved to March, which apparently clashed with one of Wyatt's previous commitments.
Rupert Wyatt issued this statement:
I was very much looking forward to working with my friend Channing and the team at Fox, but regrettably a push in the start date now conflicts with another project. I thank them for the opportunity, and I know that Gambit will make a terrific film.
Rumours have also emerged that clashes over GAMBIT's budget and script may also have played a part in Rupert Wyatt's departure. Fox remains fully committed to the film, which still counts Channing Tatum and Lea Seydoux among its cast, so I would expect that we'll hear news of Wyatt's replacement before too long. I'd also imagine that the film's release date of October 7, 2016 will likely be pushed back.
Now that the position is open, who should step into the director's chair for GAMBIT?
