Exclusive 1:1 Interview: Beasts of No Nation Director Cary Fukunaga!

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

Ever since Cary Fukunaga‘s impressive debut feature film SIN NOMBRE, the filmmaker continues to build on his impressive resume. With JANE EYRE and of course, the fantastic first season of True Detective, he has become one of the most exciting names in Hollywood. In BEASTS OF NO NATION, he gives us a frighteningly brutal, and equallly compelling story of Agu (Abraham Attah), a child soldier fighting a civil war in Africa. It is an astonishing feature that will not only be in limited release this Friday, but available on Netflix that very same day. Although, if you can see it in a theatre, I highly recommend it.

Recently we sat down with Cary to talk about BEASTS OF NO NATION. He discussed how it came about, and how his recent success brough it to life. One of the most important aspects of the new film is the casting, and young Attah is absolutely brilliant in the leading role. The director discussed how they found the young actor, as well as working with a talented child actor, who had never worked on a film before. BEASTS OF NO NATION is a terrific film, and one that you should seek out whether it is in the theatre or in the comfort of your own home on Netflix.
