Talk about throwing THE KITCHEN SINK at you… literally.
Sony has had a movie on their hands for awhile called just that – THE KITCHEN SINK. At one point in time, Jonah Hill was having conversations about making his directorial debut with it. That ultimately didn’t come to be, with Robbie Pickering taking the project that featured an all-out war in some shitty small town being fought between humans and vampires and aliens and zombies. That was back in 2013 with the film then scheduled for a January 2015 release. That then got pushed back to September 2015, but as you’ve seen, that film never saw the light of day and quietly faded off the radar. No one was asking for it, and Sony wasn’t talking about it.
Until today, when out of nowhere, Sony dumped a red-band trailer for the film under a new title – FREAKS OF NATURE – with a release date rapidly approaching in a matter of weeks. Talk about clearing space off the shelf.
The trailer is batshit crazy, that’s for sure. And it’s easy to see how a movie like this isn’t for everybody. But you mean to tell me that during the Halloween season, Sony couldn’t figure out some way to sell a wild flick like this, with Vanessa Hudgens, Bob Odenkirk, Denis Leary, Patton Oswalt, Mackenzie Davis, Joan Cusack and Keegan-Michael Key in the cast, to the public? That’s a damn shame.
Take a look and then see if you can’t formulate a plan to see FREAKS OF NATURE with the studio dropping the film in select theaters, which most likely means “very few.”
FREAKS OF NATURE comes and goes on October 30.
