Production on GAMBIT starring Channing Tatum as the card-flinging mutant was expected to start soon, however that was before Rupert Wyatt left the film last month. The project still hasn't found a director yet, but Deadline is reporting that "recent Hollywood chatter has Doug Liman on an inside track to direct." Although the site goes on to say "there’s also talk that Liman and Tom Cruise might do a sequel to Edge of Tomorrow," The Wrap's Jeff Sneider is claiming that Tatum has been courting Liman to helm the comic book movie.
This doesn't mean that Liman will definitely take the job though, and there's no word on if he's even interested in directing the project. But I'd be more than ok with him taking over for Wyatt, and if he does, hopefully he won't have any creative differences with Fox. Would you rather see the filmmaker behind the camera for GAMBIT or an EDGE OF TOMORROW sequel?
GAMBIT has been set to open on October 7, 2016.
