With a Star Wars film set to be released each year for the foreseeable future, those of you who are already sick of Star Wars news are in for a long, long ordeal. STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS finally hit theaters last week to great critical and commercial (and how!) success, but now it's time to focus our attentions on the next film in this new Star Wars trilogy, STAR WARS: EPISODE VIII. We already know that Rian Johnson (LOOPER) will be taking the reins from J.J. Abrams for the sequel, but according to Abrams good buddy Greg Grunberg, the director may be feeling a hint of regret over leaving the franchise behind.
Greg Grunberg spoke to The Washington Post and related what J.J. Abrams had told him upon recently reading the script for STAR WARS: EPISODE VIII.
He read it and said something he never, ever says, he said: ‘It’s so good, I wish I were making it.’ He may have said something one time on ‘Lost,’ with Damon [Lindelof, the co-creator], but I never hear him express regret like that.
Abrams comments are certainly a ringing endorsement for the sequel (although what else was he going to say?), but given how successfully J.J. Abrams and company were able to win back the goodwill of those fans who were burnt by the prequels, it's exciting to think that STAR WARS: EPISODE VIII may very well continue the upward trajectory and surpass its predecessor.
STAR WARS: EPISODE VIII is set to hit theaters on May 26, 2017.
