It's not every year that we get a new Quentin Tarantino flick, making each new debut a kind of "event", especially if you consider the actual event of the limited engagement "Roadshow" screenings. Now, the film is opening wide for all to see, 70 mm or no, and everyone can bask in the dialogue showmanship and bloodbath violence that is a Tarantino flick. Obviously, Quentin knows how to wrangle a cast and this one has a lot of old favorites and new additions, including Samuel L. Jackson, Kurt Russell, Walton Goggins, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Michael Madsen, Tim Roth, Demian Bichir, and Bruce Dern. That's a crowd worth watching, without a doubt.
Reviews have been filtering in since the limited debut, but with the film opening wide there will likely be a new flood of takes on the film hitting the Interwebs. Most folks seem to be enjoying it, but it's not as unanimous in terms of how much, especially in comparison to Tarantino's other films (Seems like Tarantino will always have to live by an ever-changing "best of" list every time he puts out a film). Personally, I thought it was a fun little tale that played more like a Bloody Western version of Clue. Our own Eric Walkuski gave it 8/10, saying "Story-wise, it might actually be Tarantino’s least adventurous tale, but purely in terms of presentation, it could be his most film-geeky to date."
