Back in 2014, we brought you word that Amazon was planning on doing a live-action The Tick revival series, and although at the time it was being reported that Patrick Warburton was expected to reprise his titular role from the short-lived FOX show, Deadline has learned that British actor Peter Serafinowicz will play the big blue superhero in the pilot for the planned series.
Serafinowicz is best known in the U.S. for his roles in SHAUN OF THE DEAD, GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY and SPY and his voice work (he provided the voices of Darth Maul in STAR WARS: EPISODE I – THE PHANTOM MENACE and Darth Chef in “The Return of Chef” episode of South Park), however he’s also appeared in multiple British TV series, including Spaced, Black Books and Look Around You.
Here’s the logline for the new show:
In the new incarnation, the blue-suited Tick is recovering from a memory loss and ends up reteaming with his sidekick Arthur (DRAFT DAY’s Griffin Newman) to fight evil. The two are surrounded by a new host of characters that include Arthur’s sister Dot (The Following’s Valorie Curry).
Cinematographer and TRANSCENDENCE director Wally Pfister will helm the pilot from a script by The Tick creator Ben Edlund, who will also serve as an executive producer with Warburton and original exec producer Barry Josephson. Are you excited for the new live-action take on The Tick?
