Fear the Walking Dead renewed for season three

The second season of AMC's Walking Dead spin-off premiered just last week, and like its big brother, Fear the Walking Dead also knows the pleasure of an early renewal. The spin-off follows the lives of a dysfunctional family as the zombie apocalypse begins to spread across the globe, and while it isn't quite as popular as its predecessor, AMC has nonetheless announced that they'll be renewing the series for a third season consisting of sixteen episodes to air in 2017. The network also renewed Talking Dead: Fear, the live aftershow hosted by Chris Hardwick.

President of AMC, SundanceTV, and AMC Studios Charlie Collier said:

What Dave Erickson and Robert Kirkman have invented in Fear the Walking Dead is to be applauded. Watching Los Angeles crumble through the eyes of our characters and seeing each make decisions and try to figure out the rules of their new world – it’s fresh, eerie and compelling and we’re all in for the ride. As Victor Strand observed, ‘The only way to survive a mad world is to embrace the madness.’ We thank the millions of fans for embracing this mad world and look forward to sailing far into the future.

After escaping off the coast of Los Angeles, the survivors found refuge on the Abigail, a yacht owned by the mysterious Victor Strand (Colman Domingo). I haven't quite warmed to Fear the Walking Dead yet, but I'm willing to stick with the series for a while longer as it did take The Walking Dead a season or two to find its legs as well; plus, underwater zombies is something I can't say no to.

Fear the Walking Dead airs Sundays at 9 p.m. ET/PT on AMC.
